Black Eyed Peas Concert and Huge Slide

Back in the Keys!

Well last post we were heading to Alabama and off we went. To the cold and snow! We spent time at the KOA Owners Association meeting, hopefully solving some issues, probably creating some :). We camped at the hotel for a few nights and then went to the old KOA for a few nights.
When it snows in Alabama things go crazy. Even with the talk of upcoming snow, schools closed, flights canceled, offices close early, all before any white shows. During our time there we went to a great concert and saw the Black Eyed Peas! Wow what a show...2 warm up bands, Ludacris was one. Not really my type of music but he was interesting. Something like 15 Prevost buses for the bands. From AL we went back to Florida to get some RV work done. We spent almost a week there but took advantage of the time to get some work done and tour a little more of Orlando and area. From there we went to St Petes KOA for a night and caught up to some old friends who we met at our KOA years ago. http://www.stpetersburgkoa.com/
My hats of to Damon at the KOA with all the changes they have made and the ones underway, the hottub is going to be great. After that we headed off to Sun-n -Fun campground just outside of Sarasota FL for a few days. http://www.sunnfunfl.com/
This is a huge park and it was full. They had a Godzilla water slide that the kids loved and a Spa that Sue loved. Sam and Cooper enjoyed the massive dog park, and I enjoyed the bar with live entertainment.
From there we went to a small town called Everglades City Florida and stayed at one of the nicest parks we have ever seen. The builder wanted to create a unique Resort that would sell the lots. Obviously with the economy the have not sold great and being $650,000 probably does not help either I am sure. This resort had a building to kill for with a spa, theater with the coolest chairs, billard room, even a lighthouse. http://www.evergladesisle.com
All the roads were interlocking brick and with the greatest landscaping. It was on the water and each site had a dock. I will post some pics soon.
We stayed there 5 nights and then off to the keys again. We will hopefully get some work done and rest at the same time. On the deck is our diving test to finish and also entertain a few of Sues relatives for a few days. The weather here is cool for the keys- around 17c. Not hot but no snow.
Talk to you all soon.

Still in Key West

Well its been a great time here, seeing all the things to see. We explored the island and visited places we used to go when we were here before, some are still here but others gone. The economy in some cases, others hurricanes etc. During our stay here we started our diving lessons to become certified divers. We have only done a few lessons in the pool and classroom so far but it is fun, quite different though.
We are off tomorrow to head north towards Alabama for a KOA Owners Association meeting.
Compared to the warm weather here, its going to seem cold. I know for all you people up North its still warm.
We also have been using a few rental PET scooters to see how they go. Its been fun zipping around Key West and getting good feedback on them. We are hoping to go to visit some friends in north Florida, then to AL and then back to Florida to get some work done on the RV. Nothing major just a few glitches. From there who knows? We have enjoyed seeing many KOA Owners along our journey, some twice! I think there are enough KOA Owners down here we could have a 2nd informal convention! No meetings just the social part.
Drop another note soon

Another day

Hi again
Well we have traveled from Lake Okeechobee KOA, to Miami, to the keys.
We had a great time at the L.O. KOA and were lucky enough to be there when Wendy had their Care Kamp Appreciation lunch. Did you know they raised almost 38,000 US for Care Camps last year! Wow, job well done. Many KOA owners were present and it was great to catch up again.
The LO KOA is a huge park and was close to full. Many Ontario plates, my neighbor was from the Owen Sound area. On my other side was Jay and Carol Coates from Durango KOA.
Great people and we had a wonderful dinner with them on Jay's birthday, 21 again.
Good luck with the guitar lessons Jay, and Carol, keep on swinging- shes taking Golf Lessons- lets keep it clean people.
We left there and headed to the Miami city campground for 2 nights to wait while we could find a spot in the keys, what recession down here, everythings booked.
The miami campground is a great spot to camp if you cannot get into the KOA, they were booked also. We headed downtown for supper one night and took in the sights and sounds of South Beach. Very unique and interesting. Cool cars as well. Its the cruising street, Lambos, porches etc. Passed 2 super yachts, 180 + feet each, well over 30 mill each. Must be nice.
From Miami we headed to Key West to a small park on Stock Island, its jammed, but everyone friendly. Supply and demand down here I tell you. Jen and Ed from St Augustine KOA are here for a few days to celebrate Eds birthday, so we are off to explore etc soon. We all have been here before but its still interesting and things change, though the sunset is fantastic each and every night with the performers etc.
Will update as we go.

Finally Nice Weather

Well we are here in Sunny Florida. St Augustine Beach KOA to be exact. Our hosts, Jen and Ed Ross, could not treat us better. Not only are we on a lovely site overlooking the lake, but they got HOT weather for us too! Well not hot but at least its warm. We left Myrtle Beach after a great stay and did the drive from there to here in a day. Its not that far, about 8 hours depending on traffic. We were delayed by one accident on the road, a RVer from Nova Scotia in a fifth wheel pulled from the fast lane into the slow lane and unfortunately a car was there. It also happened on a bridge to make it worse. Luckily it appeared no one was hurt, thank goodness. I wanted to stop and help ( typical KOA Owner) but there was nowhere to stop or pull over without making matters worse.
As I said we are in Sunny Florida. We have not traveled much or looked around as we have been here many time before but if you are down this way I recommend you stop by and visit, this is a very historical area. Downtown is truly unique and they have tours leaving right from the KOA.
More to come soon, just wanted to give a quick update.

Trip so far

Well we finally got to where there is no snow, still cold but no snow. We are currently staying at the Apache Campground in Myrtle Beach. It is a huge park, close to 900 sites, 300 of those are overnight use. It also has the longest pier in Myrtle Beach area. The manger here use to manage the Myrtle Beach KOA, great people and lots of experience with parks this size.

We left just before New Years hoping to get down this far before the big party but mother nature had different ideas. We stayed the first night in PA at Pine Grove KOA and woke up to a major amount of snow. we decided that we would stay around for awhile until the roads cleared, so we walked around the park. Last time we were there they were planning on putting in some lodges. Well 35 units later they are there. Built on a hillside they are fantastic. They also had just put in another section of full hookup sites. Most of their pull thrus are over 80 feet long! Next years plan calls for Yurts and more sites overlooking the mountains. They have a carousel, band stage, and so much more. If you ever get a chance and want to see a great KOA check it out. http://koa.com/where/pa/38180/
Thank you for your hospitality Pine Grove!

New Years eve brought an exciting night in a truck stop! Wow, who says I do not take Sue to all the best places. The weather was bad and we were exhausted so we just pulled over and called it an early night. We did stop by the Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA, http://koa.com/where/va/46187/, to say Hi but they were closed and we were trying to get some more miles done before we quit for the day. Looks like a super park with a stream running through it and wildlife all around, hopefully next time.

From there we shot down to Wilmington KOA for one night. Met a great staff member behind the desk, a young workkamper. She was very nice and helped with all my questions, more importantly she asked where we were going the next day and helped with directions so as to avoid going downtown Wilmington with the RV. She says many GPS units take people the wrong way for a RV. Something to think about for next year.
This park is close to many attractions, so if you go this way drop by and say HI. Thanks Joel for your hospitality. http://www.koa.com/where/NC/33168/

So now we are in Myrtle Beach, and I will update you more as we go.

Happy New Year All
